Canva App
A Canva App to integrate users’ VideoMyJob inbox videos with Canva’s extensive, easy-to-use video editing features.
Overview
My Role
UI/UX, Product Design and Digital Design.
Problem
Users require advanced editing and branding features beyond what is available in VideoMyJob or is within scope to be designed with current resourcing.
Concept
Create a Canva app so that our users may access the videos they have been sent within VMJ through Canva. This would allow them to utilise Canvas' advanced editing features and a large array of templates.
Process
Identifying and reconnecting with customers who have expressed a desire for advanced editing solutions outside the scope of our roadmap and/or customers who have mentioned Canva as part of their marketing toolkit.
Meeting with the product manager, CTO and developers to discuss requirements and to scope the project. Research and familiarisation with Canva’s libraries, design systems and style guides were then undertaken.
From here, user flows and wireframes were put together and discussed. Hi-fidelity designs and simple prototypes were created, discussed and then iterated on before submitting to Canva for feedback. A period of iteration was undertaken in response to Canva’s feedback until the app was approved. This process also included marketing banners for the app’s Canva App Store page.

Iteration
In collaboration with the team at Canva, a number of iterations were undertaken to ensure the correct use of Canva’s design system and style guide for Canva Apps.
Conclusion
Feedback received from the users who expressed an interest in using the Canva App was positive. Cropping to various formats and the use of raw, unbranded video for platforms such as TikTok are now available to these users without a significant investment of time and resources for our team.
One benefit of locking down the user’s templates in the VideoMyJob system is that it allows for each new asset to be on brand and consistently designed. Limitations imposed by the users’ lack of design tool proficiency led to the request for our team to assist with setting up brand templates within Canva.
